Wound management advice in antebellum America. From The Transylvania

Journal of Medicine and the Associated Sciences, 1828-1853. Christianson EH. Clinics In Plastic Surgery. [JC:dhx] 10(4):671-7, 1983 Oct. During most of its existence (1817-1859), the Medical Department of Transylvania University compared favorably with any of the nation's medical schools. In terms of clientele, the Lexington school was to the west what Philadelphia was to the east. The wounds discussed in The Transylvania Journal of Medicine and Associated Sciences included four basic categories: gunshot, fractures, surgical, (both elective and trauma), and miscellaneous. Examples of each category are presented.
