          - synovitis;
          - treated w/ splinting;
    - Stage II:
          - joint space narrowing with bone erosions;
          - treated w/ splinting and surgical synovectomy;
    - Stage III:
          - moderate joint destruction w/ volar subluxation & ulnar drift
                  however, moderately good hand function is perserved;

    - Stage IV:
          - advanced joint destruction on X-ray w/ fixed MP joint deformities
