- Discussion:
    - wound less than 10 cm w/ crushed tissue and contamination; 
    - soft tissue coverage of bone is usually possible; 
    - w/ IM nailing, average time to union is 30-35 weeks; 
    - is frx in which there is limited stripping of the periosteum and soft tissues from bone, and bone coverage does not present any major problems;
    - overall soft tissue envelope about frx is usually fairly well preserved;
    - adequate soft tissue coverage exits despite high energy trauma,  segmental fracture, extensive soft tissue laceration, flap formation,
              or delay in debridment > 8 hours from injury
